India is a land of festivals. Each state celebrates a plethora of festivals every year and Ganesha Chaturthi is one of the most widely celebrated festivals in the country. During the celebrations prayers are offered to huge idols of Lord Ganesha made up of plaster of paris (POP). And at the end of the celebrations, these huge idols are immersed into water bodies, thus depleting and polluting them. The chemicals released are extremely harmful to human and animal life. Thus, we had taken up the activity of promoting the usage of clay Ganesha idols during the occasion, as it is easily decomposeable and doesn’t cause a significant threat to the environment.
